Our names are Anna and Leszek Derbich. We are marriage at the age of 40+, living with two adult but still learning children. In November 2010, we movet to ur new house in Bogucin. It is a small area near Lublin where we can rest after day of working and where we can realize our passion.
Our catter was registered in Feline Federation Europe in 2005 under WINNI*PL affix. We are members of MTM-ICF located in Lublin.
The name of our cattery is just the name of our first birman female. We were so amazed by her charm that we decided to give such name to our cattery.
The Breed
The Sacred Cat of Burma is officialy a french breed (see - breed's history). The French call it Rolls-Royce among all cat breeds. This cat looks and behaves like a real aristocrat. The character of the Birman is very equilibrated and friendly. They are very affectionated to humans and love to be their companions. They like to cuddle and love it to be hugged and to get attention. They greatly appreciate companionship and also like young children. They give the impression of quiet power accompanied with harmony through their pensive and expressive blue eyes.
Sacred Birman are medium in size and are semi-longhaired cats. The solid rather elongated body is carried on strong legs with rounded paws, which should not be too high. The Birman is rather low on legs. The feature, which makes a Birman so unique, are the absolutely white paws, called gloves. The gloves on the front paws shall not extend beyond the metacarpal, on the hindlegs the gloves shall not extend beyond the hock. On the backside of the hindlegs the gloves end in a point (called gauntlets), which is very characteristique for the Birman. In the ideal case the gloves shall be as symmetrical as possible.
Birmans have semi-long, silky hair, a semi-cobby body and relatively small ears compared to other cat races. In order to comply with breed standards, the Birman's body should be of an eggshell colour or golden, depending on the intensity of the markings colour. The markings can be pure seal, chocolate, blue, red, lilac or cream. Tabby variations are also allowed. Tortie cats can be seal, chocolate, blue or lilac. Birmans have sapphire coloured eyes.
All Birmans are born white (as other colourpoint kittens are) and they start developing their colours at the age of 1 week if they have a dark colour (as seal-point) and at the age of 14 days, or more, if they have a clear colour (as lilac-point). The first part which develops the colour are the points of ears, nose and tail. The real colour is complete at two years old and after a wintry season.
Sacred Birman is a rare breed cause there are problems with breeding a cat of excellent type with perfect points which is the only show type. It can take a long time to get a kitten of such type.
Most of the kittens are of pet time just because of non symetric points.
Once you meet Birman you'll never change it for other breed.
